Portakabin is thrilled to be shortlisted for the ‘Specialist or Specialist Services Contract up to €1m’ and the ‘Construction Product Innovation’ award at this years’ ICE Awards in May 2024.
After a record number of entries and following a lengthy review process as well as a face-to-face interview held in March, Portakabin is thrilled to be shortlisted in these categories for projects completed in Ireland in 2023.
Portakabin submitted its Alta building for the Construction Product Innovation category, having recently installed a large-scale complex for a world-leading pharmaceutical company using the Alta module range. Portakabin Alta buildings offer the highest specification of modular buildings on the market and provides all of the aesthetic, comfort and specification of a traditional build, but with the speed and flexibility of a modular building.
Portakabin Alta modules can be easily configured to form large complexes to provide safe, comfortable working environments for any end user. Innovation comes from the technicalities within the product. The windows have PVC-U frames and are double-glazed with low energy glass for optimum thermal performance. Similarly, the walls, doors and roof are insulated with environmentally friendly CFC-free Envirofoam, which is lightweight and enhances long-life structural strength resulting in an energy efficient building. Its steel-faced doors have an insulating core that minimises heat loss, meaning energy efficiency is high, saving on energy expenditure.
For the Specialist or Specialist Services Contract up to €1m, Portakabin submitted its Walls Construction project, where a site accommodation building to cater for office and construction staff was required.
The buildings would provide welfare facilities for both office and construction staff within a limited timeframe, with full project management support from Portakabin. After seeing sample layouts of existing Portakabin modular buildings on data centre sites, Walls Construction were impressed by the flexibility and quality of the Portakabin product.
In under three months from initial order, Portakabin delivered a large-scale modular complex and site cabins to support 84 office staff and numerous general operatives. The original complex was achieved using 30 Portakabin Konstructa modules, providing 826m² of space fully fit out with electrics, double sockets, lighting and heating. This high quality, energy rated modular building was completed in just over two weeks plus five external site cabins were also installed to be used for changing rooms and toilets.
After the initial handover, Walls Construction then required an additional level. With a completed building already on site, Portakabin was able to successfully deliver these supplementary cabins, making it the first triple-storey site accommodation complex in Ireland.
