Why Hire from Portakabin?When KN Networks won the contract to refurbish Irish Rail’s management offices at Heuston Station in Dublin, the company needed to provide interim offices, toilets and welfare facilities for the displaced management team. Heuston is Ireland’s busiest train station and KN Networks needed to find a building supplier that could install the interim offices directly onto the station platform without disrupting regular passenger services.
Konrad Swierczynski, Quantity Surveyor at KN Networks, says: “Previously, we had hired buildings from Portakabin and had always been happy with the service provided. Their price was very competitive and, crucially, we knew that their buildings met our own high-quality standards and those demanded by Irish Rail. In fact, we see Portakabin buildings as the highest standard portable buildings available.
”Portakabin was appointed to provide the management offices, disabled-access toilets, canteen, site office and storage facilities for the project. The company was given just two days’ notice of the delivery date, but managed to complete the full installation within a single day, right on schedule.
The delivery had to avoid peak times both within the station and on the surrounding roads. What’s more, delivery cranes could not access the restricted platform location with its overhead canopy, which meant the buildings had to be offloaded at the end of the platform and transported by forklift truck to the installation site.
The buildings were positioned well before refurbishment work began. They create precisely the high-quality working environment we needed for the Irish Rail managers and staff. Most importantly, the entire project was completed without interrupting any services for Irish Rail passengers, which was always our primary consideration.
