Stacey has been with the team at Plymouth Hire Centre for over 20 years and knows the City and the surrounding county of Devon like the back of her hand! We checked in with her as the team prepare to relocate to a brand new location in Plymouth.
"Over the past 20 years, we’ve really noticed and adapted to the changing needs of our customer base. Recently, and due to the impact of the pandemic, virtual meetings and developing online tools has meant we’ve been able to speak to more customers than ever.
Our site on Embankment Road has served us well over many years, however with fewer customers wishing to view buildings, limited space on the site and increasing opportunities for our customers to view buildings on hire with other clients, we’ve taken the exciting opportunity to relocate. The move means we can better balance the needs of the business with maintaining the high level of service our clients expect.
Having lived in the City for most of my life, there’s never been a more exciting time to work in the region. There is so much happening locally across a wide range of sectors; Wayne Rooney has recently become manager at Plymouth Argyle, events like the British Firework championships and we’ve been watching Great Britain in the 2022 SailGP. So many plans and initiatives going on!
The development of the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport is also an exciting prospect which hopes to supercharge the South West economy by building on our region’s unique national capabilities in marine, defence and space to form globally impactful clusters and a UK Innovation Superpower.
It’s hard to describe a typical day in our office as you never know what’s around the corner! Personally, I love dealing with calls and emails that come through needing my support, including past, current and future customers. Every company has different processes in place which we try to help make dealing with us as easy as possible and we also spend a considerable amount of time finding and developing new business relationships as well as maintaining great contacts. Working for Portakabin offers me security as well as flexibility and I feel valued for the work I do.
Recently, we’ve been handling a lot of requests to make alterations to existing buildings on sites. This really allows us to showcase the flexibility of modular buildings especially with offices and schools where they need to expand quickly and with very little notice.
The variety of my role really makes me smile, I take great pride in solving client problems, often taking a challenging situation and turning it into a straightforward and smooth process.
Where I see real opportunity for us in the coming months is at the Devonport Royal Dockyard, education projects, manufacturing clients and potentially the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport.
If you’re looking for additional space in Cornwall and South Devon, I’d advise giving us a call to find out more. Leave your perceptions at the door! Modular buildings from Portakabin fulfil a variety of uses and from that first call we can discuss site requirements and financing options to get you moving in the right direction."
