The Requirements
Stoke Mandeville Hospital required additional A&E cover to cope at a critical time; its busiest period from December onwards. The unrelenting dedication and hard-working nature of NHS staff shouldn’t be the only thing health providers rely on when the pressure is on busy accident and emergency departments – best practice encourages hospitals to always be proactively planning care, assessing variations in risk and working towards high-quality continuation in healthcare. Portakabin specialises in this; providing space quickly, with no compromise on quality.

The Solution
“The building is there to ensure patients are seen and assessed as soon as they arrive at the hospital, no waiting in long queues or on ambulances,” says General Manager for Portakabin (Refurbished), Graeme Robinson. “We moved at great speed on this one and delivered the centre within 12 weeks; four weeks to plan and design, four weeks to manufacture and four weeks on site. This is construction at its most efficient and involved a significant number of decision making meetings inside a very short timeframe. This type of turnaround is our speciality – we know how to make it happen.”
The rapid assessment and treatment centre has given us the much-needed space and facilities to support our A&E department during the very busy winter period.
