The Requirements
As pioneers of the new generation of wind turbines, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has invested £160 million in a facility where its production plant will sit alongside its assembly and servicing facility at Green Port Hull. With space at a premium on the site, which was reclaimed from the estuary waters, the company needed five office and welfare zones for clients and employees to support the construction project office for wind turbine pre-assembly.

The Solution
Paul Savvides, Procurement Manager at Siemens Gamesa says; “Being based on one site is vital for us and Portakabin was able to quickly deliver high-quality buildings into a very challenging environment. As a completely new UK industry, we want to make our processes and products as productive and cost effective as possible and we were impressed with their ability to meet our tight time constraints.”
Portakabin created a multifunctional building for Siemens Gamesa; two-storeys of office space, shower and welfare facilities, kitchens, break out spaces and common rooms. Client meeting rooms were fitted out with custom vision panels to provide look out points over the live site without any of the typical health and safety risks.
Portakabin supplied, installed and maintained 970m2 of floor space after less than six weeks on site. This market leading system offers exceptional levels of insulation and air-tightness, providing a comfortable, warm and welcoming office environment that’s also energy efficient.
Using a hybrid approach, where modular and traditional construction can come together, meant that a viewing platform could be installed onto the building for clients and staff to look out over the River Humber as the wind turbines are taken offshore for assembly and installation.
The viewing platform and vision panels in meeting rooms give our clients breath taking views of the River Humber as the turbines are moved offshore and allows us to showcase the project in action.
